Illinois Sen. Barack Obama has been elected the 44th president of the United States, and will become the first African American to take over the Oval Office. In Massachusetts, voters decided to keep the income tax, lessen the punishment on possessing up to an ounce of marijuana, and outlawed dog racing in the state.

Tuesday's election was perhaps one of the more eventful moments in recent history and almost 71.4 million viewers tuned into some sort of election coverage.
