Students, locals unite to help China quake victims

Students and local communities have raised more than $60,000 to help the hundreds of thousands of victims displaced by China's earthquake. Artists across Boston (above) gathered at MIT on May 25th for a benefit recital in honor of the brave victims in Sichuan. (Audio and text story.)

The yearly report released this week by the National Low Income Housing Coalition lists Massachusetts as the fifth state in the country with the highest "housing wage" required to afford a Fair Market Rent (FMR) two-bedroom apartment.

Framingham's large Brazilian community is getting ready for the Brazil vs. Venezuela game Friday with a genuine Brazilian celebration: barbecue, beer and samba. Three buses will take more 300 fans to the Gillette Stadium and their party will begin right at the parking lot. (Story and video in both English and Portuguese.)

The Journalism Students' Online News Service (JSONS) is Emerson College's only regular, independent, student-produced online news medium. It was started in the summer of 1995 as an outlet for the work of students in Dr. Paraschos' print and multimedia journalism classes.
